The Gods of Amarra

Through the many ages, there have been many beings powerful enough to deem themselves as gods. In the distant past, in the Age of Titans, beings of great elemental and primordial power warred for dominance. Some became gods, and others eventually passed into oblivion, losing most of their power. Those that remained as gods, are known today as the Paleoteric Gods, or more commonly: The Ancients or The First Gods. Though they may not have actually been the first, just the ones who remained after all that titanic age.

Religion

  • The First gods: do not have temples or places of congregated worship – they have shrines, which can be anything from a simple set up of revered items in someone’s home to a full large building with statues and depictions of the god within.
    • Any offerings or sacrifices made in these places are boons to the god
    • There generally aren’t any coordinated “services” or meetings of followers
  • The High Gods – Have temples with sacred places and alters – meant for large gatherings on holy-days or other days of import.
    • Offerings or sacrifices made with any group of 20 or more with a priest present are boons to the gods
    • Shrines or small offerings are appreciated, but generally have no effect for the god.
  • The Ascending Gods– must BUILD their own temple (not necessarily with their own hands but be mostly present for this).
    • Any sacrifices made by a group of 20 or more with a priest present are a boon to the god.
    • Every time their godly name is uttered (once known) their divinity grows (generally hundreds or thousands of such utterances are needed to do anything significant)
    • Once their first temple is constructed – any new temple made is a boon to them.
